Very nice campground right in the downtown area. The owners are super nice which is such a bonus.
Missing the mountains while in Alamogordo...no problem, a 30 minute drive to Cloudcroft and you are there! What a cool little town. Lots of hiking, biking and good places to eat. Check out the hiking and biking pictures!
The trestle is still there but people are not allowed to cross it. It has been restored to its original structure. There are hiking paths on either side of it.
Over 2,000 petroglyphs packed in a 1/2 mile trail. Over 14,200 have been found in the area. So very cool! Dogs not allowed.
Trinity was the code name of the first detonation of a nuclear weapon as part of the Manhattan project. They only open it up to the public twice a year and we were lucky enough to be here for it. Due to the Oppenheimer movie, there was a lot of interest this year. We waited for 2 hours just to get in the gate. It was worth it. Check out the photos and Mark's TV debut!
We were going to do the entire High Altitude Race Loop (see MTB Project link) but took a shortcut. The first half kicked Barb's butt as it was quite a climb. However, the second half of the trail was worth it!
A small shop within walking distance of the campground. Very good treats!
Great brewery. We wished we were staying in Cloudcroft so we could enjoy the nightly entertainment. The hostess was so very sweet. She was originally from Iran, then lived in Houston for 20+ years and most recently is living in Cloudcroft.
