Campground

Mulberry River Outdoor Adventures

What a gem of a place! Just a few miles off I-40 near Mulberry AR. The Mulberry River runs right through and it is gorgeous and warm! You can rent floating tubes and kayaks on-site. Ty, the owner, never stops trying to improve the campground. Don't get Ty-jacked (his term for long conversations)! Please read my expanded description below. This is not a full-featured campground (yet!) so make sure you understand what you're getting into.

Things to see

Mount Magazine State Park

Very nice state park, and bonus, it is free. It has several hiking trails, overlooks, and a nice lodge.

Popeye's Garden

Why? Because Alma AR is the spinach capital of the world! That's why!

Hiking

Signal Hill to Highpoint

This trail is in Mount Magazine State Park. It is an easy, short trail to the highest point in Arkansas. At the high point, there is an arrangement of stones that is in the shape of Arkansas!

Kayaking

Mill Creek to Mulberry River

Ty, the owner of the campground, took us up river and dropped us off at Mill Creek. It was a beautiful ride down Mill Creek to Mulberry River and then right to our campground. We saw several snakes, turtles, spiders, and fish. Well, and cows too. They were cooling themselves in the river.

Mulberry River

We were able to kayak right from the campground. The river is relatively slow so we went up river about a mile and then back down. We had to portage a short distance a few times as the river was relatively low at the time we were there.

To make a long story short ...

Ty Floyd (owner of Mulberry River Outdoor Adventures)

Ty is a fun guy to talk to. He has so much energy and so many ideas for how he wants the campground to grow. He has purchased hundreds of more acres, some of which he will expand the campground into. It will take time. Every site has water and electric but, NOTE THIS, not every site has a sewer hookup. Ty is working on that!

We visited in June 2022. Let's be clear, this is not a 5 star campground. Ty has 5 star ideas. At best, we would rate the campground a 3 star campground. That's not because Ty isn't trying and not because the campground is terrible. The rating is a reflection of the fact that the campground is currently a work in progress. We would call the campground "rustic". It is beautifully quiet and all the other guests were so nice. We would definitely go back.

By his own admission, Ty said our site was the best one because it backs up right to a branch of the river. The sounds of the river and forest at night are just wonderful. It really seemed like the outdoors got louder at night and it was fantastic. Birds, frogs, crickets, and the sound of the river. And lightning bugs!
