Cape May

Campground

Sun Retreats Cape May Wildwood

Beautiful, huge park that fills up on the weekends with families.  There are a lot of full-time and seasonal campers here.  Lots of things to do...pool, swimming and fishing lake, multiple playgrounds, pickleball, tennis and basketball courts, etc.

Things to see

Cape May Point State Park and Lighthouse

Nice state park along the water.  There is a lighthouse, bunker, and a great beach to enjoy here.  No dogs allowed during prime daylight hours in the summer.

Downtown Cape May

Cape May has a wonderful downtown close to the beach, full of shops and restaurants.

Historic Cold Spring Village

Experience the day-to-day life as a villager living in South Jersey in 1789-1840.  Each building is staffed by a volunteer acting as a villager and carrying out their trade (blacksmith, book maker, baker, etc.).  Great experiential learning opportunity!

Memo's Pizza Cucina

This was such a great pizza and very artistic too.  Highly recommend.

Mulligan's Bar and Grill

Great bar food with a New Jersey flair!

Taco Caballito Tequileria

Another great Mexican restaurant in keeping with our Margarita Martes tradition!

Ugly Mug Bar & Restaurant

Decent food in the heart of downtown Cape May.  It was fun to try a tomato based clam chowder.

To make a long story short ...

More relatives I hadn't met before

If you've read our entry for Baltimore, you'll remember that we met up with cousins of mine that I hadn't met before; Brock and Carol McMunn.  Well, their daughter, Shauna, lives in NJ just across the border from Philadelphia.  Like Brock and Carol, I had been in touch with Shauna via Facebook and found a good day to meet up.  While Cape May is one of her favorite places to visit, we decided to meet at their house.

We drove up and met Shauna, her husband Brian, and his son Shaun.  Quite the name coincidence, eh?  They have a couple of rambunctious, but sooo sweet, dogs that Polly would have been intimidated by so we were glad we left her at the camper.  Brian is quite an accomplished musician, so he and I did a little impromptu dualing-guitars thing in the living room.

We had a wonderful time with them.  Reaching out to relatives you've never met can be a challenge but we do it because it has always turned out great.  They were a bit envious of our lifestyle and have been getting more adventurous with their camping and hiking.  Keep it up!  Given more time, and not having Polly back at the camper, Shauna really wanted to take us into Philadelphia and show us around.  Next time!
