Bristol/Kingsport KOA Holiday

This was a typical KOA with some seasonal campers but most people stayed only a day or two.  It was a quiet location with a nice pool, play area, and game area.

Things to see

Downtown Bristol

Bristol's “Main Street” is called State Street as it is divided by the state lines of Virginia and Tennessee.  Most people think of the Bristol Motor Speedway; however, another claim to fame is The Birthplace of Country Music...and we thought all along that Nashville held that title!  The downtown was pretty quiet while we were there (during the week), but we enjoyed walking around and visiting the Birthplace of Country Music museum.

The Birthplace of Country Music Museum

Very enlightening museum with a great 15 minute video when you enter.

Hiking

Devil's Backbone Trail

This is in Warriors' Path State Park.  Relatively easy path with a nice creek at the turn-around point.  Follow the AllTrails directions to park along the road.  No fee required.  Dogs allowed.

Food and Drink

Bistro on 6th

After going to the museum, we found this nice outdoor dining area that had really good food, a nice beer selection, and good people watching.

Jalapeno's Mexican Restaurant

To make a long story short ...

All I ever heard about was the racetrack

My brothers Greg and Fred had ventured down here on multiple occasions to see a race in Bristol.  All I ever heard of it was about the racetrack itself.  I have to wonder if they even knew about the whole "birthplace of country music" thing?
