Dodge City

Campground

Gunsmoke RV Park

This was a nice campground with only a couple mile drive into Dodge City to see all the sites.  This is actually one of the very few campgrounds we have stayed at more than once.  Almost to the day, we stayed in Oct 2022 and 2023.  By 2023, they had started work on an expanded area.

Things to see

Boot Hill Museum

There's a lot to see here.  They've done such a good job of preserving artifacts and explaining their places in history.  The cemetery is rather small but it really wasn't used for very long.

Downtown Dodge City

We walked around downtown.  The city has a self-guided tour book that shows where all the historically significant buildings are.  There are also bronze statues of famous residents.

Hiking

Ford County State Park

Not a very well maintained park but it had trails and we took Polly out for some exercise.

Food and Drink

Dodge City Brewing

Stopped in for a couple beers and some wonderful flatbread pizza.

Kate's

First of all, "Kate" was a dude.  This was a bit out-of-the way but had such a nostalgic feel to it.  The food was pretty good.  The fried catfish was suggested by the waitress and it was SO GOOD.

Miss Kitty's Cafe

Stopped in here for breakfast and it was yummy.  As you can tell from the name of the place, all the inspiration was from the "Gunsmoke" TV series.  Lots of pics and references on the walls.

To make a long story short ...

Kyle turned 30

Our daughter's hubby, Kyle, turned 30 while were out here.  Breanna requested that various friends and family record short 30 second videos having to do with the big three-oh.  Since Barb and I were right here in Dodge City, we took the opportunity to stage a shoot-out.  When we went to the Boot Hill Museum, we recorded our shoot-out in front of the old-time storefronts.
