Screen door latch fix

We had been noticing that when we would open our main entrance doors, sometimes the screen door would not stay with the main door.

Notice that this small black piece of plastic is meant to hold the screen door latch.

We really couldn't snug up the screws.  Apparently, this has been done so much that the screw holes are stripped.  After removing this latch holder, we noticed that someone had tried to move the holes but there just isn't much to grab onto.  The thin aluminum sheathing on the inside of the door is just too weak.

We went to a local hardware store and found a piece of steel that would give the screws something meaty to grab onto.  These are "tie" pieces, used to nail 2x4s (for instance) together.  We cut this in half and slide the piece down the inside of the door, between the thin aluminum and the foam filling.  The holes nicely lined up with the holes for the screen door latch holder!  How nice!

Here's the YouTube video explaining what we did.
